How to permanently set static IP in Ubuntu

Edit the file:

 /etc/network/interfaces

Edit the section for your primary network interface. It is probably device eth0 or eth1. Say you are on a 192.168.1.0 network and you want to set your static IP to 192.168.1.66:

 auto eth0
 iface eth0 inet static
     address 192.168.1.66
     network 192.168.1.0
     netmask 255.255.255.0
     gateway 192.168.1.1
     broadcast 192.168.1.255

These values are typical.
